Structural anchors & dowels
316 SS helical tie and stitching bar — technical reference for settlement cracks in Australian remedial building practice. Covers system selection, product comparisons, and brand equivalents.
What is structural anchors & dowels?
Structural anchors and dowels are stainless steel bars, rods, or proprietary fixings installed into existing concrete or masonry to connect new repair sections, tie loose or delaminated elements, or transfer load across a construction interface. Common applications include tying delaminated concrete facades back to the primary structure, installing shear dowels at construction joints, connecting new repair pours to existing slabs, and stabilising cracked masonry panels or parapets. Selection of anchor type, diameter, embedment length, and spacing pattern is the structural engineer's responsibility, supported by product ETA assessment and load testing data per AS 5216. Stainless steel grade 316 is specified for aggressive and coastal environments to ensure the anchor itself does not corrode and cause the very failure mechanism it was installed to prevent. Hole diameter, depth, and cleanliness are critical to developing the specified design bond.

System Description
Drill hole, inject resin, insert bar, allow to cure. Provides tensile stitching action across cracks.
Technical Properties
- Restores structural connection, load transfer, and continuity across a repaired section
- Grade 316 stainless steel provides long-term corrosion resistance in aggressive environments
Limitations
- Requires structural engineer specification for load, spacing, and minimum embedment depth
- Minimum edge distances and spacing must be strictly observed per manufacturer ETA data
PROCUREMENT SOURCES
