Repair Systems — Basement Water Ingress
Hydraulic cement plugging systems
Technical product reference for rapid-setting hydraulic cement products used to physically plug active water leaks — running water, seeping joints, and pipe penetrations — in basement walls, slabs, and below-ground structures on Australian Class 2 strata and commercial buildings. Covers product selection, application under active flow, set time, and integration with subsequent tanking or injection systems.
What is hydraulic cement plugging?
Hydraulic (rapid-setting) cement plugs are fast-setting Portland-cement mortars that set in seconds to a few minutes — fast enough to stop actively running water in a crack, joint or hole. They are the first step in basement leak repair: plug the flow so the permanent system (injection, crystalline tanking, or membrane) can be applied in dry conditions.
They are a preparatory, temporary measure — not a standalone waterproofing system, and not effective against very high hydrostatic pressure without engineering assessment. Working time is extremely short (often 1–3 minutes), so each plug is mixed individually, pressed in from the edges of the leak, and held under hand pressure until set; irregular voids are chased to a clean conical shape first.

Sika Australia
Sika Plug
Fast-setting hydraulic cement waterstop
Sika Plug is a versatile, fast-setting Portland-cement waterstop for sealing active leaks in concrete and masonry — basements, sumps, pools, tunnels, sewers. Approximate set 60–90 seconds; mix 1 part clean water to 4 parts powder to the required consistency (do not over-wet or re-temper). Plug minor leaks first, working from the edges, pressing the mortar firmly into the crack / hole and holding under hand pressure until set. It is a preparatory 'stop the flow' product — combine with a permanent injection / crystalline / tanking system.
Fosroc / Parchem
Fosroc Renderoc Plug (1 / 20)
Rapid-setting cementitious water-stopping mortar
Fosroc Renderoc Plug is a rapid-setting, cement-based water-stopping mortar (EN 1504 Class R1) for horizontal, vertical or overhead surfaces, used to plug / patch active leaks in concrete and brick — tunnel linings, sewers, below-ground chambers, basements and foundations. Two grades: Renderoc Plug 1 (~1 min initial set) and Renderoc Plug 20 (~20 min) at 20 °C. Supplied as a dry powder requiring only clean water — mix 1 part water to 3 parts product by volume to a stiff consistency. Confirm current AU grade availability with Parchem.

Master Builders rapid hydraulic plug (MasterSeal 590) — CONFIRM
Rapid hydraulic plug — correct product to be confirmed
The product previously listed here as 'BASF MasterEmaco S 488' is incorrect for hydraulic plugging: the MasterEmaco S range is structural repair mortar, not a rapid water-stop plug. The Master Builders Solutions (former BASF) rapid hydraulic water-stop plug is MasterSeal 590 (formerly known as Waterplug). Confirm the correct current AU product, set time, mix ratio and specs with Master Builders Solutions Australia.
