Acrylic curing compounds for repair mortars

Technical product reference for spray-applied acrylic and wax-emulsion liquid curing compounds used to retain moisture in fresh repair mortar after placement in concrete spalling repair. Covers product types, application method, compatibility with repair mortars, and when curing compounds must be removed before overcoating or painting.

What are curing compounds used for in concrete repair?

Curing compounds are applied immediately after concrete repair mortar has been finished (screeded and floated). They form a thin membrane over the fresh mortar surface that retards moisture evaporation during the critical first 7 days of curing. Without adequate curing, the repair mortar surface dries too rapidly — causing surface cracking (plastic shrinkage cracks), reduced surface strength, and poor adhesion of subsequent coating systems.

Sika Australia

Sika Antisol-15 SF

Water-based liquid acrylic membrane curing compound

Sika Antisol-15 SF is a water-based liquid acrylic membrane curing compound sprayed/brushed/rolled onto fresh concrete or repair mortar to retard moisture loss during curing. As a membrane it must be removed before overcoating. CONFIRM coverage rate and pack size against the current Sika Australia TDS.

Fosroc / Parchem

Fosroc Concure WB30

Water-based wax-emulsion curing compound (AS 3799)

Fosroc Concure WB30 is a water-based wax-emulsion curing compound conforming to AS 3799, spray-applied to fresh concrete and repair mortar to retard moisture loss. It is white on application and dries clear, allowing a visual coverage check. Non-flammable. CONFIRM coverage rate and pack size against the current Fosroc / Parchem TDS.

Tremco

Tremco Evencure AC

Water-based acrylic membrane curing compound

Tremco Evencure AC is a water-based acrylic membrane-forming curing compound spray-applied to fresh concrete and repair mortar to retard moisture loss during curing. CONFIRM AS 3799 compliance, coverage and pack size against the current Tremco CPG Australia TDS.

Sika Australia

Sika Antisol AC

Water-based resin membrane curing compound (AS 3799)

Sika Antisol AC is a water-based resin membrane-forming curing compound (AS 3799 grade) for fresh concrete and repair mortar, applied alongside / as an alternative to Antisol-15 SF. As a membrane it must be removed before overcoating. CONFIRM coverage rate and pack size against the current Sika Australia TDS.

Mapei Australia

Mapei Mapecure E 30

Water-based concrete curing compound

Mapei Mapecure E 30 is the current Mapei Australia water-based curing compound, spray-applied to fresh concrete and repair mortar to retard rapid water loss, reducing plastic-shrinkage cracking and surface dusting. As a membrane it must be removed before overcoating. CONFIRM the curing standard, coverage and pack size against the current Mapei Australia TDS.

Do not confuse curing compounds with:

  • Curing sheeting (polyethylene film) — a physical wet curing membrane rather than a spray-applied chemical curing compound — listed on the curing sheeting page for concrete spalling — sheeting is preferred over spray compounds for repair mortars when the mortar TDS specifies moist curing
  • Evaporation retarders — surface-applied products that temporarily slow evaporation in the minutes between screeding and finishing fresh concrete — not a curing compound — applied during placing and finishing, not after initial set
  • Surface sealers and waterproof coatings — penetrating sealers (silane, siloxane), film-forming sealers, and waterproof membranes are applied to hardened concrete for long-term protection — not the same as short-term curing compounds applied immediately after placement
  • Repair mortar topcoats and finishing coats — some repair mortar systems include a polymer-based finishing coat applied after the mortar has cured — this is not a curing compound — follow the repair mortar manufacturer's system specification
  • Primer coats before painting — if the repair mortar surface is to be painted or coated, the curing compound MUST be removed (or a sacrificial compound used) — check the paint or coating TDS for compatibility with curing compound residues
