InfraBuild 316 Stainless Steel Welded Wire Mesh
316 SS welded wire reinforcement mesh — supplementary reinforcement — slab edge
Best for
- Grade 316 stainless steel — corrosion-resistant in chloride and coastal environments
- Welded wire mesh — consistent geometry — 2400×1200 mm sheets — cut to size…
- Minimum 30 mm cover from repair mortar surface — maintain using plastic spacers or…
- Used as supplementary reinforcement in repair mortar where existing cover is insufficient
- High resistance to chloride-induced corrosion — suitable for high chloride exposure classes
Avoid where
- Stainless steel mesh is significantly more expensive than carbon steel mesh — specify only…
- Do not use 304 SS grade in high-chloride environments — specify 316 SS minimum
- Minimum concrete cover of 30 mm must be maintained from mesh to repair surface
- Confirm structural requirement with project structural engineer before specifying supplementary mesh
- Do not substitute welded wire mesh with loose tie wire or non-structural mesh products

Do not confuse stainless steel reinforcement mesh with:
- Black mild steel mesh (BHP, InfraBuild) — standard black mild steel mesh corrodes rapidly in the chloride-contaminated environments typical of concrete slab edges in carparks; never substitute black steel mesh for stainless steel mesh in slab edge repairs where chloride exposure is present
- Galvanised steel mesh — zinc-coated (galvanised) mesh is not suitable for embedded use in chloride-exposed repair mortar in carparks; zinc coating degrades in cementitious environments and does not provide the long-term corrosion resistance of 316 stainless steel
- Epoxy-coated reinforcing bar — epoxy-coated deformed bar is a different product for structural rebar replacement, not supplementary surface mesh; it is installed by licensed structural steel fixers per engineering drawings and is not interchangeable with sheet mesh
- Carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips — CFRP laminates bonded to soffit faces are a structural strengthening system for bending and shear; they are not a substitute for supplementary mesh in repair mortar and require separate engineering design and specialist installation
- 304-grade SS mesh — 304 stainless steel is suitable for many applications but has lower chloride resistance than 316 SS; in marine or carpark slab edge environments with chloride penetration, 316 grade (with added molybdenum) is the correct specification
