What are salt-affected render systems?

Salt-affected render systems are salt-tolerant rehabilitation renders for masonry and brick walls loaded with hygroscopic salts from rising damp, marine exposure or ground salts. They are formulated to tolerate residual salts that continue to migrate through the wall after treatment, reducing the efflorescence and render failure caused by salt crystallisation pressure.

A salt-affected render is applied after the moisture source is treated (chemical DPC injection) and the existing salt-contaminated plaster / render is stripped to masonry. It is closely related to WTA renovation plaster — where a formally certified WTA 2-9-04 system is required, use a certified renovation plaster (Remmers SP, Mapei Mape-Antique) shown on the Renovating salt-resistant plaster page.

Westox Plastalite Rehabilitation Render is a pre-bagged (20 kg) renovation render for masonry and brick affected by salt contamination from rising damp, marine exposure or ground salts. It is formulated to tolerate residual salts migrating through the wall after treatment, reducing efflorescence and render failure from salt crystallisation pressure. Applied after chemical DPC injection and substrate preparation, with old salt-contaminated render removed first. Westox is an Australian supplier; the product page does not publish binder, water ratio, coat thickness, coverage or primer detail — CONFIRM with Westox technical.
